Doll

Character Gift

Battery operated Daffyd Thomas from Little Britain character doll. Daffyd lived in the Welsh town of Llanddewi Brefi and became know for the phrase 'only gay in the village'.

Originally the doll would have been able to say these six different phrases: - I'm the only gay in the village. - That's exactly the kind of homophobic attitude I've come to expect in this village, good-day. - I couldn't possibly walk all the way over there, these hot pants give me terrible chaffing. - I'll have a quarter of bon bons and a copy of Gay Times, please, it's my only outlet. - Bloody hell, Myfanwy, I'm so down it's not easy being the only gay in the village. - I'll have another Bacardi and Coke, please, Myfanwy.

The doll has a moulded head made from hard plastic. Hair and facial features are painted on. His short, quiffed hair is yellow, the eyes are brown and lips are pink. He appears to wear eye-liner and has blush on his cheeks. He has a gold earring on the right ear (also moulded & painted). His fabric-covered body is tightly stuffed with Polyester wadding. The body and limbs are covered with skin-coloured synthetic fabric (probably a knitted construction) that has a short nap. It is held in place at the neck with a opaque-coloured cable tie which closes at the centre back. He is wearing red (possibly PVC ) shorts (stitched in place) and a short-sleeved red top made from the same material. The inside of the red top has a white synthetic knitted lining which is bonded to the outer layer of smooth red material. It has a white cross on the front. The top has a Velcro fastening down the back and can be removed. The doll is also wearing black-and-silver boots, made from synthetic, plastic-coated fabric. The black material has a black knitted fabric on the inside and the silver has a white knitted fabric lining. The boots are stitched in place. A Velcro closure on the rear of the doll (in the red top as well as on the body of the doll) opens to reveal a white plastic battery compartment to accommodate two AAA-size batteries. The compartment has a white plastic cover which is screwed in using a phillips-headed screw and is operated by a black on/off switch. When switched on, the mechanism can be activated by pressing on a switch in the left wrist/hand. White labels are attached to the doll on the left side. The larger of the two labels is sewn into the body's side seam and the smaller one to the inner side seam of the red top. The labels are plastic coated fabric and are printed in black.
