Teapot and cover in hard-paste porcelain, the teapot with flattened indented foot ring wiped clean of glaze, octagonal baluster body with a short, angular spout high on the shoulder and a plain loop handle, the cover domed octagonal in shape with a high flange and flaring lip, simple gourd shaped knop; painted in underglaze blue with panels of chinoiserie female figures and landscapes each corresponding to the octagonal flutes of the body and framed with a simple line border, on one side is a garden scene with, to the left, a standing figure holding a flower aloft, to the right a figure seated on a stool at a table in contemplative pose, on the opposite side is a complementary garden scene with, to the left, a figure sitting on a barrel-shaped seat at a table in a contemplative pose, to the right a standing figure holiding a flower aloft, between these the panels are decorated with stylised landscapes, the spout and handle are painted with flowers and foliage and the neck with a band of scrolls, the cover is decorated in eight panels each framed with a simple line border, with alternating stylised seascapes and dancing figures, the knop is also in underglaze blue.
