Small pink cotton banner embroidered with the names of the Women for Life on Earth members, and their supporters, who took part in the peace march from Cardiff to Greenham Common, 27 August – 5 September 1981. Made in about 1985 by Thalia Campbell and her daughter, Lucy, in the 'Pentagon Peace Ribbon' format. The Peace Ribbon project was started in the USA in 1982 by peace campaigner, Justine Merritt.

Thalia Campbell was a member of the Women for Life on Earth group who established the peace camp at Greenham Common in September 1981.

“Lucy made the centre bit, very reluctantly because this is light cotton, and that's velvet. Velvet is hell to sew. We sewed all the names of the women on the march and some of the people who supported us. And I think this might be the only real record… I thought we needed to make it permanent… I don't think I got everyone to sign it because the march was long over and I couldn't get everybody together. So it isn't their signatures. I wrote their names on there and then we embroidered them in stem stitch”. Pale pink ground fabric with wide (c.7.5cm) turn-backs along side, 3.5cm turn-back along lower edge and 2cm wide turn-back along upper edge, all machine stitched in place using pink sewing thread. 1.2cm wide white cotton herringbone twill tape is stitched along the reverse of the upper and lower edge. This extends into ties on all four corners. Central circular image made of appliquéd pieces of four different colours of cotton velvet fabric on a dark velvet ground, depicting a purple peace symbol superimposed on a globe of red and pale blue and a green leaf covering the upper part. Above the globe is the inscription 'WFL1981OE' in machine-made zigzag stitches using green thread. The roundel is framed by pale blue 2cm wide braiding made from synthetic material. 'GREENHAM COMMON' hand-embroidered in chain stitch below roundel using green thread. Names are hand-stitched on either side of the central motif in stem-stitch and chain stitch. Names were first hand-inscribed in pen before being embroidered. One non-embroidered name remains in lower proper right corner. Five further names inscribed in faded pen along bottom edge and lower proper left corner. These have been embroidered in the main section of the banner. On the reverse, on all four corners, small self-adhesive tabs of hard/hooked Velcro have been stuck to the fabric and have also subsequently been stitched in place.
