Pot-lid, earthenware, circular shape with cylindrical flange and convex top, the flange and underside of the lid partially obscurerd by the frame; the upperside of the lid decorated with an underglaze polychrome transfer-print of 'Shakespeare's Birthplace (Interior)' (although this exact title is not recorded on the lid), showing the interior of a sparsely furnished room with three standing figures and a dog in the foreground, chairs, chests and a bust of Shakespeare are arranged around the room, around the bottom of the scene is the inscription "THE ROOM IN WHICH SHAKSPEARE WAS BORN, 1564, STRATFORD ON AVON", the print enclosed by a circular pearl dot border. The glaze slightly crazed. The pot-lid mounted for display in a close-fitting circular wooden frame painted black.
