Slip-on impression. Shield of arms set diagonally: two lions passant. Dudley Priory; Haughmond Abbey (Lunt & Lisk forthcoming no.17). These arms are capable of two interpretations: arg. and az. they would belong to the de Somery family, an interpretation used to date a pavement at St James' Priory, Dudley to 1310-1322 (Locock 1990); arg. and gu. they would belong to the le Strange family, appropriate at Strata Marcella through the marriage of Hawyse (d.1310), dau. of Jiohn le Strange to Gruffydd ap Wenwynwyn (d.1283), gransdon of Owain Cyfeiliog, the founder of the abbey.
