T shirt

Standley, Iwan (Designer)

T-shirt made from mottled grey cotton jersey. Designed by Iwan Standley - a student who was arrested for his part in the protest against the Queen when she visited Aberystwyth University and the National Library of Wales in 1996. He printed and made a hundred of the t-shirts to sell in order to pay a possible fine following his arrest. His design featured an upside down stamp with the Queen's head on it and the words 'Twll tin i'r Cwin' printed over it. The reverse of the t-shirt features the newspaper headlines following the demonstration.

As the Queen officially opened the new extension to the National Library of Wales, Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (the Welsh Language Society) held their own ceremony at Coopers Arms in Aberystwyth. The two-day event featured a reading of poetry written for the event, and gigs by Bob Delyn a'r Ebillion and Geraint Løvgreen a'r Enw Da.
