Late Iron Age copper alloy plaque
Copper alloy plaque (53mm x 56mm, thickness c.0.15-0.20mm) decorated with three embossed, almost identical, circles (external diameter c.27mm) arranged to form an equilateral triangle. Each circle consists of an inner and outer ring of relief decoration c.1.5mm wide. The external edges of the circles are 2mm apart from each other at their closest point. The edge of the plaque follows the outline of the circles leaving a 0.5-1mm wide flange except for at the 'base' where the edge runs straight from the maximum extent of one circle to another leaving a triangular-shaped void of sheet bronze. The tri-disc is pierced by six fixing holes, three in the centre of each circle and three arranged unevenly around the edge. Several of these holes are torn and appear to have been enlarged. There are two linear folds across the face of the plaque.

Site Name: Llyn Cerrig Bach, Cae Ifan Farm
Notes: Found during the construction of an airfield at RAF Station Valley. Some certainly, the rest probably, from a wet meadow which formed the margin of Llyn Cerrig Bach. The exact depth below the grassy surface at which the objects were deposited is not known. The bog was excavated to a maximum depth of 20 feet. A few objects were found on the spot, after the peaty deposit had been won from the boggy margin of the lake. The rest, with the exception of 44.32/58, were found on that portion of the adjacent aerodrome on which the peat from this site had been spread. Animal bones were associated with the deposit and many metal objects were stained with vivianite.
