Recordiad sain / Audio recording: Luigi ("Gino") Vasami

Vasami, Luigi ("Gino") (Interviewer)
Keast, Anna (Interviewer)

Oral history recording with Luigi ("Gino") Vasami. Recorded as part of the Italian Memories in Wales project (2008-10), delivered by ACLI-ENAIP and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Part 4 of 6 (AV 11492 - 11497)

00.26 With regards to national identity, Gino feels more Welsh. He went back to do military service and work with the Caribinieri for 15 months and felt that he didn’t fit in and couldn’t mix with people. After a few years he went back to Italy and met his wife; going through the typical Italian ways of courting. They were married in Italy and then his wife moved to Wales. He recalls it was very difficult for her at first and she wasn’t very independent. When she had her first child, however, he bought his books back from school and she started learning English that way.
