Women's League of Health and Beauty (WLHB) gym shorts, 1950s. Worn by Thelma O'Donavan of Whitchurch, Cardiff. The WLHB was a fitness movement established in the 1930s by Mary Bagot Stack.
Black gym shorts made from a shiny synthetic fabric. Constructed from two front sections, two back sections (each with waist darts) and a small double layer gusset. Rear waist and leg holes are elasticated. Double turnback at front waist. Leg holes reinforced from inside with black cotton bias tape. Fastened on the left side with four metal hook and eye fasteners. The side opening extends down to the elastic surrounding the leg hole.
