Pocket watch

Organic components:

The casing of the pocket watch has a textile insert which consists of two pieces of fabric. It is not unusual to find a textile insert, or lining, as it serves to protect the smooth back of the watch from becoming scratched by the rough inner surface of the casing.

The top fabric is a small embroidery of silk stitches on tabby-woven cotton ground fabric. The embroidery threads are green and yellow. It picks out the word 'Love' above a crown flanked by two fleur de lis, and a vase flanked by two birds on the bottom. There is also a circular border. The green embroidery stitches of the border penetrate through a thin paper lining. The edge of the cotton ground fabric is unifinished but the paper lining has been notched to conform to the curved shape of the watch casing.

The lower fabric is a circular piece of maroon satin fabric. A white selvage can be seen on the proper left side. The edges are unfinished but notches have been cut around the cirumference for a better fit.
