Seal - Equestrian: the Queen (facing front) seated on a horse trotting to dexter, wearing a small crown, a tight bodice with long open sleeves, and a wide loose skirt; both her hands grip pairs of reins. The long bordered saddlecloth is diapered lozengy, the spaces occupied by pomegranates and castles alternately – the former derive from the shield of Granada and refer to Mary’s mother, Catherine of Aragon, the latter are taken from the arms of Castile. The field is enriched by foliage, particularly a flowering rose bush to the front of the horse; above its hind quarters is a large fleur-de-lis surmounted by a closed crown.
