Tape recorder

EMI (Manufacturer)

EMI TR51D reel to reel tape recorder. The first recording equipment purchased by the Museum's sound archive. Used from 1958 and throughout the 1960s.

Consists of a single self-contained assembly unit built within a metal frame. Chrome EMI logo on tape deck. Housed in a green rexine-covered wooden case with chrome carrying handles and clasps. Detatchable lid and lockable. Chromium finish metal grille at the front of the case for loudspeaker. Removable panel at the back to allow access to the output/power chassis. Edge of cloth cover slightly torn. Complete with instruction manual and technical specification sheet.
