Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Cremated human remains found as a discreet deposit at the base of central grave pit [43]. Initially identified as a cremation deposit, it was subsequently published as an inhumation burial. The basis of this seems to have been that articulated vertebrae were noted during excavation but there does not appear to be any photographic or osteological documentation for this within the archive. Nearly all bones are clearly calcined, cracked and distorted and there are numerous burnt tooth roots within the deposit. All fragements are very abraded and have the poorly preserved surfaces which would be expcted from an acidic environment.

Notes: Barrow 2 Grave pit [43] This is published as being a secondary burial, inserted through the burial mound, which disturbed and displaced Burial 4 which is interpreted as being the primary burial. This is somewhat at odds with the radiocarbon evidence which suggest an earlier date for burial 3. In addition, it is clear that the barrow was somewhat plough-damaged,that excavation conditions were far from ideal and that stratigraphic realtionships were frequently difficult to interpret.
