Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Sports cap of bordeaux silk velvet, crown constructed from 6 triangular sections. In centre is a domed button covered with metal thread cord. Same cord is wound round edge of button and at the end is a tassel of white metal purl. Centre front has appliqueéd embroidered badge of Welsh lion stitched in red, black and blue on white ground, surrounded by green border with [Prince of Wales' plumes?] embroidered with metal coils. Below: scroll with inscription imbroidered in white. Borders of design delineated by couched twisted wire. Peak embroidered with metal coils: '1970-71 Ic.Ic.S.S.Be'. Printed template visible underneath embroidery. Peak stiffened (card?) and edges trimmed with 2 white metal braids. Cap is lined with black cotton sateen. Towards centre of crown, the lining is pleated to accommodate narrowing shape. It is joined onto a flat, oval section of fabric (9.5 x 11cm); white cotton tape is stitched across this central oval (side to side).
