Cap
Cap/head-dress, part of a bardic robe worn by Sian Owen (Sian Penllyn) - the first female Officiating Druid of the Anglesey Gorsedd of the Bards. She was appointed in 2011 and held the position until her death, aged 48, in 2013. Born in Llanuwchllyn, she lived in Anglesey for most of her life. She worked as a freelance translator, author and editor, and published her first novel, Mân Esgyrn, in 2009.
Cap made from gold-coloured synthetic fabric that has a satin appearance. Circular crown and double thickness fabric along sides. All machine stitched, with seam at CB. Sides are embellished with wreaths of foliage, consisting of fabric leaves that appear to have been attached to green plastic branches through heat and pressure. The foliage is attached with hand-stitched appliqué embroidery using a pale green thread. The thread passes around the branches and is stitched through the leaves themselves at intervals, anchoring them onto the branches (as a safeguard to reinforce the original attachment of leaves to branches). The leaves have a substrate of mid-green tabby woven fabric but are coated with a layer of green paint (or thick print). The edges of the leaves are raw but are prevented from fraying by the layer of paint.
