Bellarmine or Bartmann jug, of grey stoneware; standing on a double-ribbed slightly spreading foot, bulbous lower body, tapering at shoulder and rising to form a broad, cylindrical neck with a wide, corded lip rim; simple strap handle; domed and hinged pewter cover, the hinge attached to the upper handle; the body covered, to interior and exterior, with an iron brown wash under a speckled salt glaze; applied to the upper body, opposite the handle, a moulded bearded facemask, the beard long and waved, below this three repeating rosettes applied around the body, each rosette of five flower-head styled dots radiating around a larger central circle of the same device, interspersed with radiating stamen-type devices; the dome of the cover inscribed 'V.P'.
