Ffotograff (digidol) | photograph (digital)

Digital copy of a photographic image of Llewellyn and Margaret Jones taken in 1941. They were the Managers of the Vulcan Hotel 1939-1941.

Llewellyn Jones was born on 25th October 1899 in Dolwyddelan, Caernarfonshire, to a Slate Mining Family. Around 1909 when Llewellyn was aged about 7, the family moved south to Abercynon and when he left school (aged around 12) he started working in the coal mines. He was a miner most of his life, coming to the pub trade late. He married Margaret ‘Maggie’ Walsh in 1920 and they had three children. Between 1939-41 they were the Managers of The Vulcan Hotel and lived on the premises with their three children. Llewellyn died in 1945, aged 46, of silicosis from years below ground.
