‘The Groesfaen Colliery Officials Cup, Boys under 16 years, 66 Yards Free style Club Handicap’, c.1939 and associated miniature (2019.18/2).
The winner was Mr John Davies a collier’s boy at Groesfaen Colliery who kept the main trophy as the competition was suspended at the outbreak of Second World War, although it should have been handed back after 12 months. Mr Davies joined the Royal Navy at the start of the war and was drowned in 1942. The associated miniature remained un-engraved as it was up to the winner to have it engraved.
