Roman samian bowl
The upper zone has panelled decoration, panels of arrowheads alternating with panels containing a group of birds, including two large geese with wings upraised. The lower zone is also panelled, cruciform designs alternating with a large leafy festoon containing fan-shaped leaves.
The large geese are O.2311 and O.2320: they are found on bowls stamped by Licinus and some later potters. The leafy festoon is also found on the work of Licinus, the upper zone decoration of which also closely resembles our bowl. The lower zone is also well paralleled on a vessel at Fishbourne, the arrowheads in the upper zone of the Fishbourne sherd could be the same as ours.
