Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
This is a tiny fragment of unstratified worked lead. The fragment is a flat uneven square cut with various grooves. One large groove is knife cut and could be deliberate, the others are shallower and may be scratches made during its use or destruction.
A similar, larger piece of lead was found during the 1981 excavations and recorded as a spindle whorl. Lead plates were often used as weights during the medieval and post-medieval periods.
