Strong strips of cattle horn were glued to the belly of a composite bow, the surface of the bow facing the archer when in use. The strips were thickest and strongest toward the grip. These grip laths are much rarer finds than ear laths and the ones found in Prysg field are characterised by a 'waisted' profile with two square ends which slope downwards on the upper, convex, face.
