Tureen, cover and stand

Evans, D.J. & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1862 - 1870)

Tureen, earthenware, stands on flared foot with wavy rim, rounded body, bulging at the shoulder, tapering and ending in a rounded everted lip-rim, rounded domed cover with waved rim and semi-circular indentation for utensil, central horizontal handle with spreading foliate moulding to the terminals, asymetrical; transfer-printed in purple with the 'Floral' pattern, Venetian style scene of a canal and quayside with sailing boats and figures in the foreground, Romanesque church in the background, scrolling floral border to foot and lip-rim, broad border of running convulvulus to cover and floral garlands to dome of cover. Stand, earthenware, standing on tapering foot-rim, raised rim to central well, waved outer rim with twin rustic foliate moulded horizontal handles, transfer-printed in centre with Venetian scene as on tureen, running convulvulus border to outer rim, floral sprays on handles.
