Bone tool made from a longitudinally split sheep/goat metapodial. The thickness of the tool has been kept deliberately small along the entire length and the remaining articulation has also been shaved down to make the implement flatter. This terminal has been perforated for suspension or attachement of string/binding. The shaft of the tool is straight and slender, tapering to a slightly rounded edge with wear facets on both faces. The flattened form of this 'needle' might suggest a role in coil basketry.
Site Name: Llanmaes, Llantwit Major
Notes: The larger piece was found after leaving site in a box of nails. THe joiing tip was later recovered from amongst the animal bone from context (291), the fill of a hollow in the vicinity of the MBA roundhouse porch.
