acquard double cloth; based on John Roberts handloom double cloth with Caernarfon Castle, this machine woven version has pictorial representation of Aberystwyth university building, entitled, COLEG PRIFYSGOL CYMRU, and below a similar, but not identical representation of Caernarfon Castle, entitled CASTELL CAERNARVON; woven inscription above buildings also: CYMRU FYDD / CYMRU FU; above and below the pictorial motifs are row of four leeks flanked by dragon motifs; there is a border of mixed floral and leek motifs, worked diagonally in corners; one end bound with later cotton tape; the other with very worn original woven woollen braid; selvage at sides; colours: red and cream.
