Jug, of buff stoneware, narrow ribbed foot, ovoid body, ribbed collar neck; high loop handle with roughly moulded lower terminal; flat cover, of silver, hinged with shell thumb-piece, incised in the centre with a griffen, a narrow band of silver also applied to lip rim; the body sprigged with relief moulding; two men on horseback, several pairs of hounds all pursuing a leaping stag, a central plaque derived from Hogarth's 'Modern Midnight Conversation' - men seated and standing around a table, drinking, three classical figures of women, two leaning on urns, two large trees and a man on foot with a shotgun; the upper portions with a rich iron-brown wash, the lower portions with a creamy slip all with a thin clear salt-glaze.
