Jug

Haynes, Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1802 - 1810)

Jug, pearl-glazed earthenware, wheel thrown with loop handle, spout, baluster form with flared foot. Printed in blue, with two left of spout 'When this you see...'etc, and to right with an armed brig in full sail over an arrangement of mermaid's head, cannon, anchor, rope and flags. Border to rim of swags over a dense ground pattern of diapers containing quatrefoils edged with a band of pendant sprigs, similar inner border edged with alternating demi-lunettes and sprig. Spray of mallow? to back of handle.

This jug is inscribed on the reverse: 'When this you See Remember me / And bear me in your mind / Tho' many leagues we distant be / Speak of me as you find / Wm SAUNDERS / 1804.'
