Basket

Romer, Emick (Born Emmich Römer in Oslo, 24 August 1724; in Strömso in 1751; probably settled in London around 1760; had returned to Norway by May 1795)

Cake basket, silver, oval standing on applied oval concave-sided foot ring, ogee-curved sides and curved handle hinged on opposite sides; the foot ring decorated with alternate pierced pales and rosettes between two applied cable bands, the sides decorated with alternate panels of pierced trellis- and scrollwork separated by spiral bands of embossed beading, the rim lobed and with applied cast decoration of gadroons, scrolls and shells, the handle pierced to form two entwined bands and terminating at each end in a beaded scroll, engraved in the bottom with the later arms of Cunningham etc. Patched in the bottom (visible from underneath).
