Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Vertically striped fabric in bright shades of pink, red, purple, maroon and brown; used for curtains, furnishings and clothing.
Full width of woven fabric = 122cm wide (selvages along both side edges); One selvage is 0.5 and the other 0.8cm wide; one edge is cut straight, whereas the other edge is shaped (used to cut out pattern).
Tabby-woven stripes are made from different coloured warps (singles yarns, Z-spun) whereas wefts are all the same colour (pink, singles yarn, Z spun); stripes are 1.5cm wide, with the occasional maroon stripe which is 1.8cm wide.
Front and reverse of the fabric are interchangeable.
