EC2-S-C1type cargo ship (Hull No.MCE 2131) built 1944 as JOHN SHERMAN by Permanente Metals Corporation, Richmond, California (engine by Willamette Iron & Steel Corp., Portland, Oregon), for the US War Shipping Administration, managed by Alcoa Steamship Co., New York. 1947 – Sold to Atlantic Maritime Co., Panama, and renamed ATLANTIC COAST, managed initially by Boyd, Weir & Sewell, New York, and by Livanos & Co., New York from 1948. 1952 – Transferred to Atlantic Cargo Carriers Inc., under the Liberian flag. Same managers. 1953 – Transferred to Atlantic Freighters Ltd., under the Liberian flag. Same managers. 1961 – Sold to Demades and D.Gioulis & Others, Piraeus, Greece,and renamed DEMOS, managed by Livanos Ltd., London. 1965 – Owners restyled as Demos Special Maritime Co. (same managers).
