A fairly hard to hard fabric with a rough feel. In the core it has a streaky appearance alternating from cream to reddy/orange (10R 5/8 - 2.5R 4/8). In the break abundant white clay, moderate fine quartz and sparse to moderate Ironstone can be seen under magnification. Surfaces are glazed with a glossybrown to dark brown/black colour (5YR 4/4-3/4-2.5/2), although this appears patchy. Wheel-thrown.
