Original caption : c. 1960 Electrolytic Tinning Line The tinplate industry of the hand mills ended after the coming of cold steel strip from strip mills and the introduction of the cold reduction process, which gave the steel a surface suitable for tinning, leading to the development of the electrolytic method of tin deposition. This enabled steel strip to be tinned continuously and the amount of tin deposited substantially reduced. The model is the electolytic tinning line which came into production at Ebbw Vale in 1948. Another line has been added to it and there are modern lines at Trostre and Velindre tinplate works.
