Early Medieval copper alloy bell
Saint Gwynhoedl's bell Quadrangular bell, the handles of which have zoomorphic (animal-headed) terminals, which are biting the top of the bell. The iron clapper is of a more recent, but unknown, date.
St Gwynhoedl's Bell, 900-1200 CE.
Handbells were used in early churches. They are mentioned in the stories about Welsh saints that were written down in early manuscripts. This bell was was cast by pouring bronze into a mould.
