Box, toothbrush

Baker, Bevans and Irwin, Glamorgan Pottery (1813-1839)

Toothbrush holder, earthenware, in the shape of a waved oblong, flat base, waving sides, two curving partitions extend width-ways across the interior of the holder reaching only a short way up its sides, a band of moulded anthemions to the lip-rim, the cover also in the shape of a waved oblong with waved sides and a slightly domed top, a band of moulded anthemions around the top of the cover, a number of incised lines extend across the top of the cover from the centre; transfer-printed in black with to the top of the cover an Italianate scene showing a church-like building with a castellated tower to one side and to the other side a monopteros, a small figure stands between the two buildings, in the foreground a number of flowers and foliage, in the background a landscape with buildings and hills, border to the exterior sides of the holder of flower heads, foliage and scrolls on a stippled black ground, surmounted by a band of circle shapes with a serrated edge, border to the interior lip-rim of a saw-tooth band with a band of circle shapes with a serrated edge, the same border to the rim of the cover.
