Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Linen canvas, unbleached, embroidered with blue and buff cottons in cross stitch. At the top, in six rows, separated by narrow stripes, are capital and small letters of the alphabet, twice repeated, and numerals to 20. Below, flanked by flowering plants, bird and stag designs, is a verse. At the bottom is the inscription: “Mary Hawes Aged 8 Years 1834”. There is a border of a narrow stripe.
Attached to this sampler was a piece of brown paper (Accession No. 20.254.39 B). It is probably a rough pattern for a sampler.
