Roman stone relief

On the left-hand side of the fragment, acanthus foliage appears to be sprouting from a bud, which is much damaged. Curving around this, to the right, is a spray of leaves, and at the bottom a thick stem. This decoration is very similar to that on fragments found in the internal Fortress Baths, which almost certainly forms part of a floral scroll, a common ornament as an element in a decorative frieze. The back of the stone has been dressed to a very flat surface, which would have enabled it to be clamped to a wall.
