Leather sheath for police cutlass. With brass detail. Inscription on the cutlass dates it to between 1842 - 1877.
Formerly part of Gwent Police Museum collection.
The cutlass F09.29.65.1 and another, F09.29.66, were said to have been used to arrest German soldiers on a ship that docked in Newport.
