milk in a container was attached to a hook beneath the scales; measurements in pints and gallons; one dial, painted black; hook above the scales for suspending from ceiling or beam; mechanism on the back of the scales, covered in a steel case painted black

Face plate of copper alloy (brass). Face marked around the edge in pints (1 - 32) and Gall (1 - 4) on the same outer scale and lbs on a seperate inner scale(1 - 41). Face plate covered with a thick, yellowing clear coating which has been applied over a tarnished and possibly corroding surface. [RP; 09/03/2009]
