Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Iron chain with 5 cuffs to retain prisoners during transportation. Cuffs are engraved with numbers, 13,14,15,16 and 18. Each cuff stamped FIELD & SONS 233 HOLBORN LONDON, dating the manacles to 1842 - 1877. Some stamps now partially worn away. The cuffs are attached to the chain through loops which also bear the same numbers. Formerly part of Gwent Police Museum collection
It is believed that Field & Sons, or Parker Field & Sons, may not have actually manufactured handcuffs but put their name, as vendors on those supplied by Hiatt of Birmingham
