Plate, earthenware, rounded foot-rim, cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, a slightly raised edge to the well, the rim twelve-sided and moulded with several raised bands around it; transfer-printed in black outline and partially overpainted in flow-blue, red, pink and heightened with yellow to imitate gold, with to the centre of the well the 'Amherst Japan' pattern, in the foreground a stylized basket issuing spreading sprays of imari-style flowers and foliage, in the background a small pagoda with a fence in front of it, to the rim and extending down the sides of the well sprays of imari-style flowers and scrolling foliage, to the outer rim six panels of yellow scrolls on a dark blue ground, the flow-blue gives a bluish tinge to the glaze.
