ss HEMINGE (3090gt) : Built 1918 as WAR COMBE by Tyne Iron Shipbuilding Co Ltd., Willington Quay for the Shipping Comtroller, managed by R.Chapman & Son. 1919 – Sold to Cornborough Shipping Line Ltd. (Reardon Smith & Sons), Cardiff, and renamed WATSNESS. 1927 – Sold to Mervyn Steamship Co., Newport, and renamed MARKLYN, managed by Martyn Martyn & Co Ltd.. 1942 – Transferred to MoWT and renamed EMPIRE USK, managed by Martyn, Martyn & Co Ltd. 1946 – Sold to Constant (South Wales) Ltd., Cardiff and renamed HEMINGE, managed by H.Constant. 1948 – Sold to Crete Shipping Co., London, and renamed BLUESTONE. 1953 – Sold to Moller Line (UK), London, and renamed GROSVENOR MARINER. She was broken up at Hong Kong in 1955. (Paul Heaton)
