Teapot and cover

South Wales Pottery
SHUFFLEBOTHAM, Samuel (Samuel Shufflebotham worked as a pottery decorator at the South Wales Pottery, Llanelli, from 1908 to 1915 when he left in order to serve in the army during the First World War. Before coming to Llanelli it is most likely that he was employed at Poutney's Bristol Pottery, where he would have worked with wemyss painters from the Fife Pottery. Shufflebotham introduced the wemyss ware style of decoration into the South Wales Pottery after he was recruited by them in 1908 in order to extend their range of 'art pottery'. During the 1920s he worked at a pottery in Bristol, and during the 1930s he was working at potteries in Devon. Shufflebotham specialised in the painting of flowers.)

Teapot, earthenware, standing on a rounded foot-rim, circular body with bulbous sides, inset flanged lip-rim, short curved spout, high square-shouldered loop handle, the cover domed with a cylindrical lower flange and nipple-topped finial to the centre, a pierced hole to the cover; painted in pink and green with to one side of the body two large roses and leaves, a further rose leaf to the other side of the body, green bands to the foot-rim, lip-rim and the lip of the spout, a green band to the rim of the cover, the top of the finial painted in green.
