Sheared scrap rifle from consignment of post 1945 scrap to Pontardawe steelworks. Recovered from the Swansea Canal at Pontardawe whilst it was being dredged in 1988. Thousands of weapons were brought to the former Pontardawe steelworks after Second World War to be melted down in the open-hearth furnaces and the metal then used for making tin-brass and tinplate. The guns were made inoperative by guillotining the barrel and removing the firing mechanisms.
