Jug

Jug, earthenware, standing on a rounded spreading foot-rim, globular body, cylindrical neck, plain beak spout, scroll handle with a raised thumb-spur and a further spur lower down; transfer-printed in black with to the front of the exterior body a double head and shoulders portrait of a male and female figure in Victorian costume, the portrait surrounded by a group of fishes, a group of poultry and two sprays of flowers and foliage, to one side of the exterior body an elaborate wheel-shaped design with a sheaf of corn to the centre and around the sides four circular panels containing collections of agricultural implements, the inscription " He that by the plough would thrive...etc" is printed above and around this design, to the other side of the body is printed the inscription "Let the Wealthy & Great...etc", enclosed within a border of scrolls, foliate sprays and agricultural implements, to the exterior body around the handle are four groups of animals consisting of a rabbit and kittens, sheep, a dog and puppies, and a cat and kittens, border to the exterior and interior neck and spout of roses, thistles and shamrock, border to the handle of a pattern of feathery foliage.
