Pair of white woollen knee-length stockings ('death socks'). Made in about 1850 by Eliza Lewis to be worn on her body after her death. Knitted at Esgair-onnen Farm, Llanarth, from the farm's hand-spun wool. The stockings survived as Eliza Lewis suffered from dropsy (swelling of soft tissue) in her later years.
White woollen knee-length pattern knit socks with details and inscriptions using maroon wool. Knitted lettering around top edge reads 'Eliza Lewis'.
