Tobacco pouch used by Adolphus Daniel Thomas from his time as a serving soldier with the 4th Royal Welch Fusiliers during the First World War.
Khaki coloured cotton tobacco pouch. Opens to reveal one large and two smaller pockets. The large pocket is inscribed with owner's name and regiment in blue pencil: 'A. D. THOMAS 4TH R. W. F'. The pouch is machine-stitched. It consists of a single piece of fabric folded in half. When open, one half is a single pocket running width ways across the pouch with the open edge hemmed. The other half consists of two smaller pockets, with the division machine stitched across the centre. A 6.5cm piece of twill tape has been stitched lengthways, centrally on the inner side of the pocket. The purpose of this tape is to support the pouch when carrying tobacco and in the action of opening and closing the fabric. A twill tape also runs along the back edge and would have been the method of securing the pouch shut.
