Cast-iron milestone plate in the style of those installed by Thomas Telford along the Holyhead Road (A5), Gwynedd in 1825-26. Another milestone and plate still stands along the road in the location that corresponds to this example.
The milestones that survive along the roadside in Anglesey feature 7 lines of text and Capel Curig has been shortened to 'C.Curig'. Below that, their inscription reads '10M - 3F' (10 miles, 3 furlongs). This example, however, features 8 lines of text, and 'Capel Curig' is written in full above only the number '10'. This plate differs from those along the roadside as this may have been a prototype of the Telford design.
