Teapot

Booth, Enoch
Morgan, Frederick (Frederick Morgan was apprenticed as a china painter in Bristol and is still recorded there in 1742. A Frederick Morgan died in Tunstall in March 1743. The name is also recorded on a creamware teapot inscribed 'F Morgan / March 1743' (information via Oliver Fairclough, 2000).)

Teapot and cover, cream-coloured earthenware, crazed yellow-green lead glaze, lathe and stilt marks on the underside; flattened globular body, low footring, loop handle with kick terminal, tapering upturned spout, low recessed cover with double button knop; powdered manganese ground with a quatrefoil reserve on each side painted in underglaze blue and manganese with buildings in a landscape, the cover painted with a band of shells and scrolls in underglaze blue and manganese.

This teapot is a rare example attributed to Enoch Booth and probably decorated by Frederick Morgan.
