Rugby cap made from red velvet (6 sections joined together); seams are covered with narrow braid; narrow braid also along lower edge of peak; wider braid is applied to lower edge of cap; domed wooden shape at top of crown from which a metal purl tassle is suspended by a metal thread rope; this metal thread rope is laid out in loops and which are stitch-applied to velvet; Prince of Wales feathers are at centre front, in raised metal thread embroidery (metal purl, metal wire) and blue silk thread (S-twist); year embroidered on peak (now very illegible); peak is stiffened with card interlining; lower edge of cap is reinforced with stiff linen tabby fabric; cap is lined with gold-coloured silk tabby fabric (machine-quilted in spiral shape at centre of crown); lining consists of circular section at crown and one section around the sides which is pleated to conform to the rounded shape of the cap and joined with a vertical seam at centre back; rectangular white cotton tabby label is machine stitched to inner centre back bearing printed maker's mark; white cotton tabby interlining; all metal components are gold-coloured.
