Gwn bach

Gwn bach. Belonged to member of the Page family, Ambleston, near Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

Made from brown tabby woven wool fabric with raised nap, short sleeves with brown tabby woven silk ribbon trim (full width = 5.5cm [0.5cm of upper edge turned under]). Silk has moiré effect. Ends of silk ribbon do not quite meet under arm. Centre front fastening with three steel hooks and eyes. Lower edge of bodice section is only partly finished with small turn-back, towards the centre, the fabric is trimmed off and left as a raw edge. Skirt section curving outwards towards back, made from two large sections and one narrow, pleated section in centre. Pleats held together half-way down the skirt by one stitch. Two domed transparent yellow glass buttons at centre back waist above pleats. Small roll of brown wool fabric stitched to inner centre back waist to serve as bustle. Hand-stitched, not lined.
