Fan with ivory sticks, fretted and studded with sequins. White gauze leaf is ornamented with sequins. Mid 19th century.
Plus pink cardboard case with hinged lid which closes over a narrow lip (width = 0.7cm). Long, rectangular cardboard box covered with pink paper which has an embossed surface pattern of narrow diagonal lines and is printed with a black floral pattern. On the lid, the pink paper is adhered over a shiny red paper, which is showing along the edges (a width of c. 0.3cm is exposed). The outside of the base of the box is finished off with a rectangular section of shiny white paper which is adhered over the edges of the pink paper. Same shiny white paper on both sides of lip of box (covered by lid when box is closed). Elsewhere, the inside of the lid and of the box are unfinished cardboard. The hinge of the box is reinforced with a strip of coated, tabby-woven linen (?) fabric, which can be seen underneath the pink paper.
